Mutual House
Suffolk Building Society
Ipswich
The Ipswich Building Society Listed Building Refurbishment stands out as one of several high street buildings we have had the privilege to work on together with the Suffolk Building Society. Completed in 2018, this project demonstrates a level of expertise in historical preservation and modernisation.
The renovation of Mutual House, formerly known as Chelsea House and Parrs Bank, demonstrates a level of expertise in enhancing heritage structures while meeting contemporary needs.
Mutual House, a grade II listed building, occupies a prime location in Ipswich, demanding a meticulous approach to refurbishment. Our team addressed the client's requirements outlined in the initial brief, focusing on updating and revitalising the building while preserving its historical integrity.
New interview rooms and counters were thoughtfully designed to infuse the branch with a sense of light, warmth, and spaciousness. Throughout the project, our team unearthed and celebrated the hidden and visible heritage elements of Mutual House. Original features such as the ceiling cornice, concealed behind a dated suspended ceiling from the 1970s, were restored and brought back to their former glory. The client's investment in this restoration effort has paid off, with the restored cornice now showcased prominently and accentuated with statement light fittings.
